Second arrest as police confirm more details after tragic death of two Sheffield teenagers at holiday park
Second arrest as police confirm more details after tragic death of two Sheffield teenagers at holiday park.
More facts have been disclosed, and a second guy has been arrested in connection with the terrible deaths of two Sheffield youngsters at a Bridlington holiday resort.
Ethan Slater, 17, and Cherish Bean, 15, perished on Wednesday while vacationing at Little Eden Holiday Park.
The families of the two teenagers have now confirmed their identities, while Humberside Police have announced that a second man, 42, has been detained for gross negligence manslaughter and is still in prison.
This comes after the arrest of a 33-year-old guy yesterday (Thursday, February 19), who was granted an extension to keep him for another 12 hours.
A cordon remains in place at the Bridlington Bay Road holiday park, where the two children were discovered dead on Wednesday, February 18.
Northbank Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Matt Peach, stated: “Our sympathies are with the families of both adolescents, 15-year-old Cherish Bean and 17-year-old Ethan Slater, who unfortunately died.
“Specialist trained police are giving ongoing support during this extremely distressing period, and I would want to reiterate that people should avoid from conjecture in order to respect their privacy.
“This remains a very complex case with several lines of inquiry being pursued, and I can report that a second individual, 42 years old, has been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter and is still in custody.
“An extension has been granted for the 33-year-old guy who was arrested yesterday (Thursday, February 19) to be detained for an additional 12 hours.
“Since we received the call of concern for safety on Wednesday morning (18 February), a dedicated team of detectives and specialist officers has continued to conduct detailed investigations to determine the full circumstances surrounding the deaths, which are suspected to be due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
“The cordon remains in place at Little Eden Holiday Park and we continue to work in coordination with the Health and Safety Executive alongside our partners from Humberside Fire & Rescue, and East Riding of Yorkshire Council.”
On an emotional day on social media in Sheffield, friends and family members paid respect to Ethan and Cherish individually and jointly.
Cherish’s mother wrote on social media, “We are broken as a family, and I am broken as a mother. I will never be the same again without this girl.”
“I adore my children, and we spent a couple nights away together creating unforgettable memories.
We had the best life together, and now it’s been pulled from beneath us.”
A fundraising campaign for Ethan’s burial has been created, with a message that reads: “Our son Ethan tragically and unexpectedly passed away at only 17 years old, alongside his beautiful girlfriend.” No parent should have to write these words. No family should ever have to go through this anguish.
“Ethan had a full life ahead of him. He will never pass his driving test. He will never celebrate his 18th birthday. He’ll never reach the milestones we all thought were waiting for him. He was only starting out in adulthood, full of plans, fun, and a future that had been cut much too short.
“He was the most kind-hearted boy. With a natural warmth. He was witty, protective, and exuded a calm power and loyalty that made us proud to be his parents.
“He was loved beyond measure. A son, brother, grandchild, and friend. His smile illuminated a room, and his absence has created a void that seems difficult to fill. “Our lives will never be the same without him.”
