Sheffield cycling: Work set to start on two-way, cycling ‘super route’ on Arundel Gate.
Another new bike lane in Sheffield is poised to begin construction, this time a two-way, segregated’super route’. Contractors are out inspecting Arundel Gate, which will see one lane of traffic replaced with a bike lane.
Riders and automobiles in the remaining lane will be separated by landscaping and a wildflower-lined flood channel.
It will extend from Sheffield Hallam University’s Owen Building to the Furnival Square roundabout, connecting bike lanes on Howard Street to the train station, Surrey Street, Charles Street and Pinstone Street.

A dedicated cycle crossing at Arundel Gate will connect it to the new bike lane on Charles Street.

Sheffield City Council’s plans include enhanced bus stops, vegetation, and planning for Arundel Gate.
In addition, a new roundabout will be built outside the Novotel Hotel to help traffic bypass the new bus gate, which has generated millions. A spokeswoman for contractor Galliford Try confirmed that construction would begin in the new year.
They are part of the city council’s Connecting Sheffield initiative, which aims to improve bus, pedestrian, and cycling routes in the city centre.
