Shrewsbury Town face competition for Bradford City-linked Josh Ruffels after Huddersfield Town exit

Shrewsbury Town face competition for Bradford City-linked Josh Ruffels after Huddersfield Town exit.

Following Josh Ruffels’ departure from Huddersfield Town, Shrewsbury Town will face competition for his signature.

The 31-year-old was one of many senior players released by Huddersfield in the summer as part of a major overhaul of the squad.

The left-back has been linked with Bradford City, Wigan Athletic, and AFC Wimbledon, but he is still available as a free agent. It was recently reported that League Two strugglers Shrewsbury were preparing an offer for Ruffels after having him train with their squad.

However, Shrewsbury boss Michael Appleton has claimed the seasoned defender has been looking over other options.

Josh Ruffels mulling over options

Appleton told the Shropshire Star, “Well, there’s no hiding it because I’ve seen some people have taken pictures of Ruffels training with the club.” Josh is someone I’ve clearly collaborated with for three years at Oxford.

I took him from Coventry to Oxford at the time. “I believe it is one of those situations in which there is always a potential, but the reality is that there are many other clubs looking as well.

This week, for example, he has not been with us. He has previously played with other clubs.

“He can probably play four positions comfortably, most likely at the top of League One or the Championship.

I think I can confidently claim he’d be able to do it in League Two. “He’s not out of the running, but I know a lot of other clubs would be interested in him.
