Sixteen-year-olds in squad for QPR cup game

Sixteen-year-olds in squad for QPR cup game.

Tonight’s Carabao Cup match at Plymouth could feature QPR’s second-youngest player.

Kalen Brunson, a winger, and Ashley Trujillo, a forward, are both 16 years old and in the squad for the first round match at Home Park.

Both are younger than Scott Donnelly, who became the Rangers’ second-youngest player in a first-team match in October 2004, at the age of 16 years and 298 days.

Brunson is 16 years and 121 days old, while Trujillo is 16 years and 249 days.

Former QPR player, coach, and manager Frank Sibley made his first-team debut in 1963 at the age of 15, which still stands as the club record.

Rangers head coach Julien Stephan, who is missing a number of senior players, will field a team primarily composed of development-squad members for tonight’s game.

Paul Nardi will play goal after being replaced by Joe Walsh in Saturday’s Championship opener against Preston, but the rest of the squad will be made up of young players.

Brunson is Bermudian and joined QPR in December through a football-schools programme run by a company owned by former R’s defender Matthew Rose.

Trujillo, who was born in London, has played youth football for Colombia, his parents’ home country.

Teddy Tarbotton, a 17-year-old midfielder who previously played for Hull City, is also in contention to play this evening.
