Southall blaze destroys shops and homes

Southall blaze destroys shops and homes.

Eight fire engines and some 60 firefighters were dispatched to a big conflagration at a row of mid-terrace stores and dwellings on North Road in Southall in the early hours of Wednesday morning (October 22, 2025).

Flames ripped through a detached garage and an extension at the back of one property, utterly destroying them.

Two people were rescued by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, and approximately 40 occupants evacuated surrounding buildings before responders arrived.

There were no injuries recorded. As a precaution, four propane cylinders were removed from the site and safely cooled. Cylinders exposed to heat can burst, and the London Fire Brigade stated that prompt intervention saved additional harm.

As firefighters tried to contain the flames, a 32-metre turntable ladder served as a water tower, attacking the fire from above.

At 1.31 a.m., control officers got the first of 12 emergency calls, which mobilised crews from Southall, Ealing, and Hillingdon stations. The fire was brought under control just after 3.40 a.m. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
