Spanish giants Valencia chase deal for ‘determined’ Watford ace who Tom Cleverley loves

Spanish giants Valencia chase deal for ‘determined’ Watford ace who Tom Cleverley loves.

On Saturday afternoon, Watford began their Championship campaign with a 2-1 victory over QPR at Vicarage Road. On his home league debut, Luca Kjerrumgaard scored twice for the Hornets, while Kieran Morgan scored a season-best goal for the R’s to cut the deficit in half before halftime.

Nonetheless, Paulo Pezzolano’s side held on to their lead and earned all three points after losing to Charlton Athletic on the opening day a week ago.

However, Watford now faces a new problem, this time with one of their key players linked with a move away from Hertfordshire. This time, Valencia has expressed an interest.

Valencia pursue deal for Watford winger Giorgi Chakvetadze

Giorgi Chakvetadze has yet to play for the Hornets this season, due to a bone injury. He is expected to return to action in September, but it is unclear whether he will compete in the Championship.

That’s because Sacha Tavolieri has reported that Valencia, a Spanish club, is interested in bringing the Georgia international to Mestalla Stadium this summer.

Contact has been made between the two clubs, with Tavolieri stating that Los Che can meet the player’s personal financial demands before the transfer window closes on September 1 at 7 p.m. Chakvetadze helped Watford finish 14th in the Championship last season, scoring two goals and providing six assists in 39 appearances.

Tom Cleverley was a huge fan of Giorgi Chakvetadze at Vicarage Road

Tom Cleverley was fired by Watford in May, despite keeping the club out of the relegation zone all season.

Nonetheless, Chakvetadze signed a new contract with the Hornets while the current Plymouth Argyle manager was in charge, and management changes over the summer may have an impact on the winger’s future.

Valencia’s head coach, Carlos Coberan, is a former West Brom manager who is likely to be familiar with the Georgian star. However, Cleverley may be disappointed to see a potential move go through, as he saw Chakvetadze as a key player for Watford in 2024.

When the 25-year-old signed a new contract last September, Cleverley stated (via watfordfc.com): “He’s a fantastic example for our younger players of how focussing on what’s really important in your life – if you truly want to make it as a professional – matters.

“He’s quiet but determined, setting a good example with his professionalism and desire to improve as a footballer and contribute to our club’s success.” Let’s hope he can be a big part of our future and achieve the success we all desire.”
