Starting XI: Manchester City vs Sunderland – Unchanged Team For The Lads At The Etihad?

Will Le Bris play it safe with Xhaka and Sadiki?

Following a superb performance at Anfield, Sunderland’s focus now shifts to a challenge that, on paper, is identical to the one we encountered on Wednesday at Liverpool.

Regis Le Bris changed things up in midweek, with Trai Hume performing well as a wide midfielder and Brian Brobbey leading the line – but with this being the second huge away game in 72 hours, would he be tempted to rotate the squad? Perhaps.

In addition, Granit Xhaka and Noah Sadiki face suspensions.

So, with two difficult games in a few days, followed by the Derby, will Le Bris be tempted to play the long game and rest a few of his usual starters? I’m not too sure.

This is how I believe we will line up.

Goalkeeper: Robin Roefs

Another excellent game from Roefs at Anfield on Wednesday – his kicking was a little erratic on Wednesday, but we saw the immense upside of his distribution with the pass to set up Isidor’s chance.

His biggest strength is his ability to relieve pressure by claiming high balls into the box, and we’ll need him to do that today, too.

Defence: Nordi Mukiele, Dan Ballard, Omar Alderete, Reinildo

When the lineup was released on Wednesday, the idea was that we’d play a back five; however, Hume played right midfield to great effect, and we spent the majority of the game with a back four that I believe is our strongest.

It’s terrific to see Alderete back in the team; he and Ballard work well together, and Reinildo was also excellent on Wednesday. So I believe we’ll go in with the same mindset today.

Midfield: Trai Hume, Granit Xhaka, Noah Sadiki, Enzo Le Fee, Chemsdine Talbi

If it were up to me, I wouldn’t start Xhaka or Sadiki today. We’ll need Geertruida, Rigg, and possibly Dan Neil in midfield in the coming weeks, so I’d like to see two of them start today.

It may also make sense in terms of fitness; Sadiki has been carrying knocks for a few weeks, while Xhaka will be feeling it after some tough international and Premier League play.

However, I get the idea Le Bris won’t be thinking any further ahead than this afternoon’s game when he names his team, therefore I reckon, if fit, Xhaka and Sadiki will play, guaranteeing a nervy 90 minutes minutes for every Sunderland fan today.

Le Fee will play in that advanced role pushing up alongside the striker, and I think Talbi will keep his place on the left.

Forward: Brian Brobbey

Brobbey was excellent on Wednesday, linking the play well and putting the Liverpool defence under a lot of pressure; he should keep his spot this afternoon.

therefore far, he appears to be our greatest natural finisher, therefore in a game with few opportunities, you want Brobbey on the pitch.
