Stéphan rues QPR lack of quality after damaging defeat.
After QPR’s devastating 1-0 loss to Derby County on Saturday, Julien Stéphan lamented the team’s lack of quality.
Rangers were dragged back to earth after their victory over Swansea City in the middle of the week, and Carlton Morris’ goal in the tenth minute proved to be the difference between the two teams at Pride Park.
The outcome, in Stéphan’s opinion, fairly summed up the events of the ninety minutes, and the Frenchman acknowledged that his team’s effort fell far short of his expectations.
“I think they (Derby) deserved their win,” Stéphan stated on the league’s website. “More intensity, physicality, and quality.
It was challenging on the pitch. We did not succeed in winning the second ball, and there was insufficient diversity in possession.
“We did not have sufficient quality. It’s just my opinion. We had done well in the past two months, but today was not the same.
They successfully guarded their box, and I believe we lacked diversity and ideas. We had one good chance with a header, but it was insufficient to hope for a goal in the second half.”
Last weekend’s setback to Derby was the culmination of three games in seven days, including losses to Millwall and victories over Swansea.
A similar run will begin on Saturday, when Ipswich Town visit Loftus Road, followed by home games against Southampton and a trip to Sheffield United.
It’s reasonable to say that the fixture list is filling up quickly, and Stéphan is certain that his team has what it takes to run the gauntlet and emerge victorious. “We’ve had a very good run, but [Saturday] was not a good game,” the Frenchman said.
“We’ll rest and heal today since we’ve done a lot of travelling in the last three days, which has most likely had an influence on the players.
“It is not an excuse, but rather the situation. We’ll rest today and prepare for the next run the following week.”
“We’ll rest and recover now because we’ve done a lot of travelling in the last three days and probably physically, it had an impact on the players.
“It’s not an excuse, just the situation. We’ll recover now and prepare next week, for the next run.”
