Stephen Humphrys with warning after latest Bradford City win

Stephen Humphrys with warning after latest Bradford City win.

STEPHEN Humphrys believes City poses a dangerous threat to anyone because they are still an unknown quantity.

The Bantams have defeated promotion contenders Luton and Wycombe in their first two League One home games, as well as Championship club Blackburn in the Carabao Cup.

Humphrys broke his goal drought in Saturday’s memorable victory over Luton in front of 20,233 fans at Valley Parade. He stated, “The group believes that we have enough in our squad to beat anyone in this league.”

“It is taking teams by surprise. They show up thinking they’re a big club that will be up there. “We respect them, but we’re also telling them, ‘This is what you’re getting from the first minute,’ and seeing how they handle it.

“That’s why we’ve been scoring early on and creating opportunities because we want to blow teams away.” “Although we were promoted from League Two last season, we’re not just here to participate.

We hope to win every game. “We are still figuring out our own teammates. So, if we’re still figuring it out, it must be difficult for the opponents.

“What I can tell anyone we’re going to play is that we’ll always start fast.

We’re going to press you and see how you handle it. “You saw it again in Blackburn, with two goals in four minutes. This is not a coincidence. “We respect other teams, but we’ll give it our all.

We’re not going to sit back and let you have the ball to show how good you are. “You’ve got to deal with what we’ve got.” Antoni Sarcevic set up Humphrys to score his first City goal by keeping the ball alive when the defence expected him to run for a corner.

“That’s just his experience and knowledge of the game,” Humphrys explained. “He completely lulled the defender into a false sense of security and then nudged him, ‘get off, it’s my ball.'” “To be honest, I could have let it in, but there was no chance.

“You have to take them when you can.” “I’ve been working hard on my positioning and getting into the correct areas of the box. “It is not something that comes naturally to my mind.

I always want to get the cutback and smack it into the top corner. “I’ve spent the entire preseason getting in those areas and sniffing out the goals. To get one like that is fantastic.”

Graham Alexander can see Humphrys’ desire to consistently hit the target. “He wants to score goals, get numbers,” said the City manager.

“It was part of our conversation when I met with him before he signed. “For front-line players, it is all about numbers. However, in order to score the goals, he must first complete the games. “We are working hard behind the scenes to improve his physical condition.

“We know if we can get him on that last line up against centre halves, with his pace, his power and his skill, he can score goals for us and a lot of goals for the rest of his career.”

Humphrys understands that the way Alexander expects City to play leaves no room for shortcuts. “If you don’t get on board, there’s no point in being here.

The manager has made it clear. “He sat us down a couple of times in pre-season and said, ‘These are our principles; you get on board with them, or you won’t play and be a part of what we hope to be a successful team.'” “That is ultimately up to the manager, his staff, and the group’s leaders.

Max Power, the captain, Sarcevic, Curtis Tilt, and others who raise the bar every day in training and on the pitch.”
