Sunderland Set to Miss Out on Target as Serie A Club Beats West Ham and Leeds to Deal

Sunderland now face competition from Italy for a transfer target they share with West Ham and Leeds.

In their 3-0 victory over West Ham on the first weekend of the Premier League, Sunderland had no trouble impressing their offensive capabilities.

Nonetheless, the Black Cats still plan to strengthen the assault before the current transfer window ends.

A few hours ago, Jonathan Rowe, a winger for Olympia de Marseille, was linked to Sunderland after his club put him on the transfer list.

Additionally, AS Roma’s Artem Dovbyk, a Ukrainian forward, has also been connected to the Lads. It appears, nevertheless, that another Serie A team has joined the competition to recruit him.

Sunderland will miss the goal as the Serie A team defeats Leeds and West Ham.

Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Dovbyk, 28, is now a transfer target for Napoli.

According to the aforementioned journalist, Romelu Lukaku’s recent injury is the reason for the Neapolitans’ interest.

He guarantees that the Ukrainian is the most recent addition to the Serie A club’s wish list, even though he notes that Rasmus Hojlund is still an option.

It was recently noted by the Sunderland Echo that other Premier League teams were interested in Dovbyk over the same summer. They specifically brought up Leeds United and West Ham.

In any event, Artem would probably prefer to play for Napoli, who also regularly compete in the Champions competition, as it’s a competition he already knows.

Dovbyk has participated in 45 games since joining AS Roma in 2024, with 17 goals and four assists.

The Ukrainian played 39 games for La Liga team Girona in the 2023–24 season, recording an incredible 34 goal involvements—24 goals and 10 assists.

He is still a forward at the age of 28, and he has the skills to fit into any European top league, but it appears that Italy, not England, is his most likely destination.
