Swansea and Sheffield United offer to Oli McBurnie revealed, he turned down bigger money in favour of Hull

Swansea and Sheffield United offer to Oli McBurnie revealed, he turned down bigger money in favour of Hull.

Hull City signed Oli McBurnie this summer, and it has now been revealed that the Scot turned down a larger offer from one former club.

Following Oli McBurnie’s departure from La Liga club Las Palmas, multiple Championship clubs were made aware of his availability this summer. Former clubs Sheffield United and Swansea City were interested in re-signing McBurnie, while Hull City and Ipswich Town were also considering him as a striker.

After weeks of deliberation, McBurnie decided to join Hull City after Acun Ilicali offered the forward a lucrative three-year contract.

McBurnie was initially thought to have joined Hull City because of the money on offer, but it has since been revealed that one of his former clubs offered him a higher salary.

Swansea City contract details revealed as Oli McBurnie turned down Swans return

Oli McBurnie, a Scottish international, had many admirers this summer due to his proven Championship record. Hull City edged ahead in the race, signing McBurnie to a three-year contract, but Swansea City offered him the highest salary.

According to Alan Nixon on Patreon, McBurnie turned down a ‘bigger’ contract offer at Swansea City than he received at Hull City, which ‘included massive promotion bonuses’. It is understood that they had also matched Hull’s three-year offer.

Sheffield United, on the other hand, only offered their former player a two-year contract with a salary lower than Hull City and Swansea City’s offers.

Gametime guarantees may have swung in Hull City’s favour

There is no denying that Hull City’s 2024/25 season was abysmal, particularly in terms of attack, as the Tigers scored the fewest goals of any Championship team that season.

With Joao Pedro leaving the MKM Stadium as well, it was clear that bodies were needed through the door.

Hull City may not have offered Oli McBurnie as much as his former club Swansea City, but game time guarantees could have played a role. Despite the signing of Joe Gelhardt, McBurnie is expected to be the Tigers’ top option to lead the line this season, which may have been ideal for the Scotsman’s ambitions.
