Tall Ships live updates: Boats arrive off Aberdeen coast ahead of festival.
Follow our live blog as we prepare for all the events at the Port of Aberdeen. The much-anticipated Tall Ships Races 2025 have begun, so join us as we cover all of the action over the next six days.
The world-renowned sailing event descends on Aberdeen, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors and dozens of tall ships.
Tall Ships Races is Europe’s largest free event, attracting high-profile performers such as Deacon Blue, Kaiser Chiefs, Tide Lines, and Calum Bowie.
They will perform on the purpose-built stage during a series of sold-out Quayside concerts. Curated on the Quayside, meanwhile, will bring a variety of traders and charities to the Port of Aberdeen.

King Street preparations
The Tall Ships Races are Europe’s largest free event, with preparations underway on King Street for families and children. Rides such as the Fast & Furious, a fun house and carousel, and food vendors have appeared ahead of the event.
Malcolm Miller returns to Aberdeen
The Malcolm Miller, a schooner built in Aberdeen in 1967, was the first vessel to arrive at the Tall Ships Festival. The cost was partially covered by Sir James Miller, the Lord Provost of Edinburgh, and was named in honour of his son Malcolm, who died in a car accident.
In June 2008, she was damaged by fire while being renovated, leaving one man with serious burns. Malcolm Miller travelled from Cyprus to attend the Tall Ships. A video shows ships gathered off Aberdeen’s coast:
The boats in the races have completed the leg into The Granite City and are floating as they approach the Port of Aberdeen.
