The 3 Charlton Athletic players we expect to leave by 7pm on September 1st.

Charlton Athletic are preparing for their first Championship campaign since 2019, after defeating fellow capital club Leyton Orient in the League One Play-Off Final last season.

Last season, the Addicks were far from favourites to win promotion, with Nathan Jones’ side hitting a hot streak near the end of the season to secure a spot in the play-offs.

The semi-finals were a nerve-racking and intense two legs against Wycombe Wanderers, which the South-East London side won to set up a London derby in the final.

Charlton won another intense, cagey, and nerve-racking match, thanks to Macaulay Gillesphey’s goal, which secured their place in the Championship for the following season.

And Jones’ side will undoubtedly be hoping for consecutive seasons at this level for the first time since their spell from 2012 to 2016, following a particularly impressive transfer window.

Given the large number of incomings, there are likely to be some outgoings from The Valley this summer, particularly in forward areas. Here, FLW looks at some Addicks players who may be looking for new pastures this season.

Micah Mbick

The 18-year-old youth product impressed in a few appearances last season, but he only played five games in 2024/25, the same as in 2023/24.

He has played in pre-season for the Addicks, however, and scored the winner in a 3-2 victory over Isthmian League Premier side Dartford in July.

He is a quick forward with an eye for goal who will undoubtedly want to start this season, which could benefit Jones because he has clearly seen enough to keep him in the first team at such a young age.

With the arrivals of Olaofe and Kelman, the striker is likely to see even fewer minutes, so a loan spell to a club in League Two could be an option for the Newham native.

Daniel Kanu

Another product of the Addicks’ renowned youth system, the 20-year-old Sierra Leone international striker appeared in 17 games and scored once last season.

Again, given Jones’ side’s reinforcements, as well as the fact that Matty Godden remains at the club, Kanu looks set to find minutes at a premium in the second tier. The Addicks would most likely only sanction a loan for Kanu, who scored four goals in six games while on loan at Southend United in late 2024.

FLW reported at the beginning of July that Kanu was in talks to join League One side AFC Wimbledon on loan, but nothing has come of that.

The Australian youth international has been pushed to third place following Kaminski’s arrival as the undisputed number one, with Will Mannion still at the club.

He has been the Valley’s number one for several different time periods, most notably between 2022 and 2024, but he was displaced by Mannion near the end of last season, and with the Belgian also arriving, the Dunstable-born custodian may be interested in a move away to be a regular number one.

After six loan spells away from The Valley since his signing in 2015, the 26-year-old appears to be looking for a permanent move away this summer.
