Top 10 Birmingham roads where average speed cameras capture most drivers as 44,000 caught.

Over 15,000 drivers were stopped at the city’s speeding hotspot.

Over the last year, average speed cameras on some of Birmingham’s biggest highways captured tens of thousands of speeding cars. New data has revealed which cameras catch the most law-breaking motorists and where Britons are most likely to be apprehended.

And it comes as a fresh warning to Birmingham drivers, with more speed cameras set to be installed on the city’s roads before the end of the year. The top of the list is A4540 New John Street West.

The bustling route from Hockley Circus to Dartmouth Circus is by far the most likely spot to get caught speeding in Birmingham, according to data acquired by Legal Expert for the year ending March 2025.

Over 15,000 vehicles were observed speeding there, more than 8,500 faster than the next place on the list, Leebank Middleway/Belgrave Middleway.

Other hotspots include A45 Coventry Road and A456 Hagley Road. Police and city council chiefs will launch a road safety campaign in the coming months, with more cameras installed throughout the city and speed limits reduced to 30mph on some roads.

Councillor Majid Mahmood, cabinet member for environment and transport at Birmingham City Council, stated:

“Safety on our busy highway network is paramount, and these cameras play an important role – far too many collisions on our roads involve excessive speed.”

“We all have a role to play in keeping our roads safe, and everyone has a responsibility to consider others, whether pedestrians, cyclists, or other drivers.

“This is not about making money – the majority of revenue goes direct to government – it is about road safety.”
