Top flight clubs hold talks with Josh Sargent but one stumbling block remains, Norwich City’s stance is firm

Top flight clubs hold talks with Josh Sargent but one stumbling block remains, Norwich City’s stance is firm.

Norwich City have made one thing abundantly clear in the Josh Sargent saga, as clubs begin to hold talks with the USMNT international.

Following the 2024/25 Championship season, Norwich City have decided to take a different approach, with new manager Liam Manning taking over ahead of the upcoming campaign. Manning will face a difficult challenge in taking over a Norwich City side that has lost Borja Sainz to Porto.

Last season, the Canaries’ key strength was their excellent goal-scoring record, which was aided in part by Sainz, who finished as the club’s top scorer.

Josh Sargent, 25, also played a significant role for Norwich last season, scoring 15 goals and providing five assists.

After a successful season, he was expected to attract clubs this summer, but one key demand from Norwich could deter interest.

Norwich City remain firm with Josh Sargent’s valuation as Burnley and Wolfsburg swarm

Last week, EFL Analysis exclusively revealed that Norwich have set an asking price of £18 million for Sargent.

However, that value would include any add-ons and represent the total amount that any club would be required to pay.

Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph has now confirmed that Premier League side Burnley and Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg are in talks to sign Sargent from the Canaries.

However, neither club has matched Norwich City’s valuation, which Joseph estimates to be ‘around £20 million’.

Norwich must not back down from their valuation for Josh Sargent

After Josh Sargent’s outstanding performance in the 2024/25 Championship season, Norwich City has every right to demand a high fee for the US international.

Norwich City paid a high price for Mathias Kvistgaarden, and there is every reason to believe that his incredible goalscoring record will translate into Championship football, but Liam Manning will not want to put all of that on his shoulders.

If the Canaries can get £20 million for Sargent, it would be a massive sum that could transform several aspects of the first-team squad. Based on the calibre of clubs tracking the USMNT international, the fee is not out of reach for them, so why shouldn’t Norwich demand a high price?

In terms of Norwich City’s financial situation, there is no compelling reason to sell their key players; they should not lower their valuation under any circumstances.
