Torry Raac Exclusive: Homeowners to be given deal worth pre-Raac valuation in new offer.

For the first time since the crisis began two years ago, homeowners see ‘light at the end of the tunnel’.
Torry locals have won a huge win in their fight for appropriate recompense for their Raac-damaged homes, after years of stress.
Balnagask residents trapped by Raac have been informed that the local administration is now planning to pay them the entire value of their properties, depending on what they were worth before the crumbly concrete was discovered.
It comes after The Press and Journal spent months campaigning on residents’ behalf, seeking an end to the suffering and uncertainty that has plagued their lives since the beginning of 2024.
£10m lifeline to directly benefit Balnagask families
An additional contribution to cover the cost of each roof will be made possible by the Scottish Government’s guarantee of £10 million, as well as voluntary buy market value bids and legal expenses.
In essence, they will be offered the value of their home prior to Raac.
The Aberdeen SNP and Liberal Democrat coalition has presented a proposal to be heard at a special meeting of the full council tomorrow, where the full scope of this offer will be revealed.
Miranda Radley, convener of Communities, Housing, and Public Protection, spoke exclusively with The Press and Journal.
“We pledged to look everywhere, and the Scottish Government has given us the opportunity to make an even better offer to Balnagask homeowners.
“I applaud the Cabinet Secretary’s verbal agreement to grant Aberdeen City Council with £10 million to assist with the RAAC situation;
this allows us to make an additional payment above market value to householders to help end this voluntary purchase process.
‘We thank all those who have campaigned and pushed for a fair deal’
“This crisis was not their fault, and I would like to thank everyone who has campaigned and pushed for a fair deal. Today’s announcement may bring a light at the end of the tunnel for those still affected by RAAC.
“This remains a serious issue of safety, so I would encourage every owner impacted by RAAC, both those who have had their property valued and those who have not engaged, to contact Aberdeen City Council and hear the offer that is available to them, which will in time draw this crisis to an end.”
‘We’ll now be encouraging people to engage with the council’
Lynn Winstanley, a homeowner and the founder of the Torry Community Raac Campaign Group, hailed the news. “It’s excellent news if it’s as fantastic as it sounds.
For the first time, we have taken a positive stride forward. We will now encourage individuals to engage with the council. “I am very proud of everyone who has stood their ground.
“Not only do our homes have greater value than we were offered, but so do our people. “Thank you to everyone who stood with us.
From councillors, Aberdeen residents, businesses, and, of course, The Press & Journal.
I am extremely proud of all of us. “We will provide further information when it becomes available. “For now, this is good news.”
