Tottenham battling Inter in transfer tussle for Belgian defender dubbed ‘the next Vincent Kompany’

Tottenham is vying with Inter and other Premier League teams to sign Koni De Winter, a defender from Belgium and Genoa.

  • Tottenham wants to sign De Winter.
  • predicted to succeed Cristian Romero
  • Inter is also intrigued.

WHAT OCCURRED?

Spurs have been scouting De Winter since the beginning of 2025 and see him as a possible Cristian Romero replacement, according to The iPaper. Atletico Madrid has been connected to the Argentinean, but it is said that the La Liga team has pulled out of talks because of Tottenham’s asking price.

Romero and center-back partner Micky van de Ven suffered serious injury problems the previous season. Although new manager Thomas Frank has possibilities like Radu Dragusin and Kevin Danso, De Winter is being pursued to add more depth in that defensive area. West Ham and Bournemouth have also reportedly expressed interest in the 23-year-old, although Tottenham will have to contend with Inter for the Genoa star.

WERE YOU AWARED?

Before being loaned out to Empoli and Genoa in consecutive seasons, De Winter rose through Juventus’ junior divisions and made two Champions League outings during the 2021–22 season. Since then, the latter agreement has been finalized, and he has made four appearances for the Red Devils thus far. In March 2024, he was first summoned into the Belgium squad due to his progress.

FUTURE PLANS FOR TOTTENHAM?

After a disappointing Premier League season, Spurs are attempting to restock their roster, and they are now awaiting word on their planned acquisition of Morgan Gibbs-White, a midfielder for Nottingham Forest. Due to Forest’s threat of legal action, the England international’s desire to relocate to north London has been delayed.
