Traffic chaos on Plumstead Road and Quebec Road in Norwich.
Drivers experienced gridlock in Norwich this morning as significant roadworks coincided with many schools’ first day back.
Plumstead Road carriageway resurfacing work, along with a Quebec Road closure, resulted in traffic being redirected via surrounding Victorian side streets.
With vehicles stopped on both sides, there was little room for approaching traffic to pass, causing congestion, delays, and frustration for commuters.
AJ Housen, who lives nearby and commutes into the city for work, recounted the situation.
Norwich traffic pandemonium as the school term begins amid Plumstead Road resurfacing and Quebec Road closures. He said, “This morning was complete chaos.
“Lots of traffic was being directed along the old routes, but with automobiles parked on either side, there was nowhere for approaching traffic to pass.
“People were blowing their horns and becoming agitated. “I don’t think it is the welcome to school that people needed or wanted.” According to one.
network, Norfolk County Council has scheduled resurfacing and footway work on Plumstead Road from Wednesday, September 4 at 7 a.m. to Sunday, September 7 at 11:59 p.m.

Quebec Road, meanwhile, has been blocked since July 14 for highway repairs and maintenance, with the shutdown set to last until midnight on Friday, September 12.
Norfolk County Council is also in charge of these projects, which necessitate the construction of an alternative pedestrian route.
The combination of the two closures has directed traffic down residential streets that were not built for such high numbers. Both sets of works are still proceeding, with disruption predicted until mid-September.
