Tragedy as man dies after Mercedes crashes into tree in Blackburn.
A guy died in hospital when his Mercedes veered off a busy main road and collided with a tree. Last Friday (February 13), at 1.45 p.m., emergency services were called to Whalley Old Road in Blackburn.
It followed allegations that a white Mercedes C250 had left the road and driven across the grass verge before crashing with a tree.
Police said the driver and passenger, a man and woman in their fifties, were both taken to the hospital with’serious injuries’.
Officers verified today (February 18) that the male driver had passed dead. The female passenger remains in the hospital awaiting treatment.
Officers are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has information or dashcam footage that could help with the investigation to contact them.
The route was stopped for many hours as police and paramedics arrived. In a Facebook post, Blackburn and Darwen Police stated, “We have an update to provide you following a major injury collision on Whalley Old Road, Blackburn.
Our officers were dispatched to Whalley Old Road at 1:45pm on Friday, February 13th, following complaints that a white Mercedes C250 driving towards Lark Hill had left the carriageway, crossed the grass verge, and collided with a tree.”
The driver and passenger, a man and woman in their fifties, were both sent to the hospital with significant injuries. We regret to inform you that the driver, a guy in his 50s, has died.
Our sympathies are with his family and friends, who are receiving help from specially trained officials. The passenger, a woman in her fifties, is still in hospital.
