Transport UK London Bus introduces 13 Enviro100EV electrics.
Route G1 from Battersea depot benefits from cars with 354kWh energy storage.
Transport UK London Bus is the latest operator in the city to put the Alexander Dennis Enviro100EV battery-electric mini bus into service, with 13 deliveries for the G1 route between Battersea and Streatham.
The 8.5m long, 2.35m broad vehicles are ideal for that service, which covers small streets and housing areas.
They each feature 354kWh of battery capacity, which is combined with the Voith Electrical Drive System to provide what the company describes as “ample operational range.” The new fleet is based at the Battersea depot.
Lorna Murphy, Director of Buses at Transport for London (TfL), says the Enviro100EV represents “the very best of British manufacturing” and solves the design challenge of being able to travel the G1 route in a zero-emission vehicle. She says that more than 25% of the TfL bus fleet is now battery or hydrogen fuel cell electric.
Transport UK London Bus Fleet and Facilities Director Paul Hennigan observes that the Enviro100EV additions elicited immediate good comments from the operator’s workers.
“Our drivers appreciate the well-designed cab environment and enjoy the smooth driveline, which helps to deliver an excellent passenger experience,” he says.
“From an engineering standpoint, the bus is smartly conceived and ingeniously makes excellent use of space. The manufacturer has also provided excellent support, and the company is excited to use these cars in the coming years.
According to Alexander Dennis, monitoring the buses’ in-service energy consumption using the AD Connect telematics platform revealed that it was consistent with previous modelling. National Account Manager Neil Gladstone adds:
“We are thrilled to have been chosen by Transport UK London Bus to deliver the new fleet for route G1, and we are delighted that these new Enviro100EV buses are achieving our customer’s expectations.
“We look forward to continuing to provide the Transport UK London Bus team with insights from our AD Connect telematics to help them maximise fleet availability, efficiency, and dependability.
“Our Enviro100EV is perfect for this kind of TfL route, and it is great to see them bringing accessible, zero-emission transport to communities in south London.”
