A son paid tribute to his father, describing him as a “happy and funny guy who always had a smile on his face”. Peter Nicholson, 78, a lifelong Bantams supporter, died in his sleep on Monday morning.

Peter of Lower Grange was also a well-known window cleaner who worked in a variety of locations throughout the city.

‘Funny guy who always had a smile on his face’

Peter’s son, who shares his name, stated, “My father was a happy and funny guy who always had a smile on his face.” “He always made time for anyone who wanted to talk, whether in the street or at his house.

“He was a very liked man and everyone loved him.” He added, “Dad worked on the buses before becoming a foreman at the old Woolcombers, which is now the Grattan building. “He left there around 1980, and then he became a window cleaner.”

Peter was lifelong Bradford City supporter

Peter was a long-time supporter of the Valley Parade-based club. He assisted in running a Bradford City supporters’ group at the Irish club in Westgate.

His son added: “Dad has always supported Bradford City and was a season ticket holder until a few years ago, when he struggled to get around because he needed a new hip and knee.” “He went home and away for years, particularly with the supporters’ club he belonged to.

“He took me when I was 18 months old, and since then, my father and I have gone on a regular basis. “Bradford City was his life, like most committed football fans.”

“‘A well-known figure around Bradford City’

Peter shared the sad news on Facebook, and many tributes poured in. His post read: “It is with great sadness that I inform you that my father, Peter Nicholson, passed away in his sleep yesterday (Monday) morning.

“Now I understand that my father was a well-known figure in Bradford, as well as in his personal life. “We are all stunned and numb by what has happened.

“Dad was 78, and I’m sure he’ll be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. “I will post funeral arrangements when I have them ready for anyone who wants to know. “Sleep easy dad.”
