Two ‘local legends’ retire after 19 years as PCSOs

Two ‘local legends’ retire after 19 years as PCSOs.

Two police community support officers have been recognised for their service as they retire after 19 years.

Elaine Cave and Bev Jackson both worked in the village of Street, Somerset, assisting police with enquiries, speaking with victims, and reviewing CCTV footage for investigations.

Ms Cave stated, “I’ve always been interested in the community… looking out for each other.” I was constantly interested in what was going on, and I was also a little noisy.”

Mendip Neighbourhood Policing, a division of Avon and Somerset Police, referred to them as “local legends” in a Facebook post, saying, “Elaine and Bev have been more than just officers – they’ve been pillars of our community.” The posting called them “familiar faces who’ve always had time for a chat” , along with:

“Their commitment, compassion and care have helped shape Street into the safe and welcoming place we all know and love.” Ms Cave stated that she first worked as a hairdresser before having children.

She had always wanted to contribute in the community and chose to take up the PCSO duty. “We give advice, work in schools, make a cup of tea for a vulnerable victims,” said Ms. Cave.

“It’s a wide range of things.” She stated she was particularly pleased of a blog she created for her police colleagues about an abusive relationship she had.

“Work was my safe place, my colleagues were the ones keeping me going,” replied Ms Cave. “We made lots of changes within the force, I’m massively proud of that.”
