Two more Hearts debuts for Premier Sports Cup tie at Hamilton Accies?

Following Saturday’s victory over Dunfermline Athletic, Derek McInnes stated that he would “utilise the squad” for the rest of the Premier Sports Cup group stage.

Heart of Midlothian’s 4-1 victory over what is arguably the best team in Group E takes some of the pressure off the remaining fixtures.

However, any changes will be made with the intention of fielding the strongest team possible, resting players as needed, and giving those who have proven themselves an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities.

So expect at least a few changes when Hearts face Hamilton Academical at Broadwood Stadium on Tuesday night. One of those could be at right back.

McInnes discussed using McEntee to help him with his aggressive press on Saturday, but the 24-year-old appeared uncomfortable at times. It means that Christian Borchgrevink, who replaced McEntee in the second half, could get the start.

That substitution in the previous game prompted a switch to a back three, though Accies appeared to play a front two at the weekend, which could be overkill against a League One team.

Although Saturday demonstrated that switching to a three-man defence isn’t always a better defensive strategy.

Stuart Findlay is available after serving his suspension and could replace one of the centre-backs. His pace would provide Hearts with some extra security if they play with a high defensive line.

McInnes may opt for a midfield combination that includes McEntee, who was paired with Beni Baningime several times during the pre-season.

At the weekend, the Hearts manager wanted McEntee to be a “raiding” full-back, a term he had previously used to describe his style in the centre of the park. Alexandros Kyziridis may make his debut after being an unused substitute at the weekend.

Alan Forrest, known for his pace and versatility, could start again, and don’t be surprised if the front two remain unchanged after both strikers scored in the season opener.
