Village road near Dereham to shut for bridge repairs

Village road near Dereham to shut for bridge repairs.

A village road will be closed next month, requiring motorists to take a 10-mile diversion route.

Rushmeadow Road in Scarning, near Dereham, is set to close for just under two weeks beginning Monday, March 9. The repairs to Grizzle Bridge will be carried out by Norfolk County Council at a cost of around £10,000.

A council official stated that the closure was necessary to “maintain a safe working area” for subcontractors.

He added: “A signposted diversion route will be in place throughout the closure, with pedestrian access maintained at all times.

“The county council thanks people for their patience while this repair work is carried out.”The road is expected to reopen in the late afternoon or early evening on Friday, March 20.

The diversion route will take traffic around the hamlet, past Swaffham Road, Quebec Road, Dereham Road, and Litcham Road, before returning to Longham Road via the opposite route.

It is projected to add around 14 minutes to people’s journey times.
