Watford gas work road closure near Bushey Arches update.
An update has been provided regarding a road closure at Bushey Arches due to emergency gas repair work.
Cadet Gas engineers have been working on Colne Bridge in Lower High Street since Thursday, March 26.
The block hinders access to Watford, however travel to Bushey and Oxhey is still feasible.
Originally, the road was expected to reopen by Monday (30 March), but Cadent Gas warned that it could not guarantee when repairs would be completed.
The Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, has since stated that the Hertfordshire County Council’s Highways staff has informed him that the work should still be completed by Sunday (March 29).
He said on Facebook yesterday (March 27): “Many of us have been caught up in traffic on the roads near Bushey Arches since yesterday morning.”
“A gas leak on Lower High Street, near the Mercedes Garage, has caused a road closure for northbound traffic.”
“I am told by the Hertfordshire County Council’s Highways Team that the emergency works should be completed by Sunday night.””If you can take a different route, please do so because delays are expected,” said an advisory emailed to neighbours.
“We appreciate your patience and understanding as we endeavour to accomplish this work as safely and effectively as possible.
“If you smell petrol, don’t think it’s related to this job. Act promptly and contact the national gas emergency service at 0800 111 999, day or night.
Bushey Hall Road, which is part of an alternative route between Bushey and Watford, remains closed until pipes are replaced. Many motorists will most likely use the alternative route via Oxhey Road/Wiggenhall Road.
