We will never surrender our flag, Sir Keir Starmer says.

Sir Keir Starmer has stated that the United Kingdom would not give up its flag to those who want to exploit it to promote violence, terror, and division.

The prime minister stated that the flag symbolised “our diverse country” and that he would not tolerate “intimidation on our streets because of their background or the colour of their skin.”

His remarks came after more than 150,000 people marched through central London for a “Unite the Kingdom” march planned by far-right activist Tommy Robinson, while approximately 5,000 participated in a counter-protest coordinated by Stand Up To Racism.

Earlier, Business Secretary Peter Kyle stated that the marchers were “demonstrating freedom of association and free speech.”

The prime minister stated on Sunday afternoon, “People have the right to peaceful protest.” It is vital to our country’s principles. “But we will not tolerate assaults on police officers performing their jobs, or for individuals to feel intimidated on our streets because of their background or skin colour.

“Britain is a proud nation founded on tolerance, diversity, and respect.” Our flag represents our varied country, and we will never give it to those who exploit it as a symbol of violence, fear, and division.”

According to police, 26 cops were injured on the day, four of them were critically damaged, and 24 people were arrested.

For most of Saturday afternoon, central London was packed with thousands of people waving union jacks and St George’s flags. Some Scottish Saltires and Welsh flags were also visible.
