‘We’re certainly going to need to add some players,’ says Millwall boss, with club ‘full steam ahead’ in pursuing reinforcements.
ALEX Neil stated that Millwall is “full steam ahead” in its efforts to add to its squad this summer.
The Lions have already signed three players this summer: free agent goalkeeper Max Crocombe, record-breaking striker Josh Coburn from Middlesbrough, and left-back Zak Sturge from Chelsea. Coburn and Sturge both spent last season on loan at The Den.
Massimo Luongo, an experienced midfielder who was recently released by Ipswich Town, has been training with the Lions during their week-long camp in Southern Spain. He played 45 minutes in their 3-0 friendly victory over Northampton Town last night.
Millwall will begin their season away at Norwich on August 9, and Neil is looking to add to the squad. “I think we’re certainly going to need to add some players to the squad,” Neil said at a press conference on Monday. “We are all aware of that. We’re working very hard behind the scenes to make that happen.
“But, as always, deals can move quickly, and we may have a couple relatively soon. Or, for example, many deals do not move quickly, and we need to work on them, and the deals will happen when they do.
“I think we should keep in mind that we played Crystal Palace the other day. They’ve only been back for two or three days. As a result, many of these teams have yet to decide what to do with certain members of their roster.
Some of the squad, particularly internationals, are still on vacation. “There is plenty of time between now and the start of the season. But, at the same time, we’re pushing hard to get some in.”
