West Sussex County Council faces £16 million budget deficit.
West Sussex County Council is expected to face a budget imbalance of £16.3 million in 2026/27.
The number, revealed by Councillor Jeremy Hunt, cabinet member for finance, is based on a 4.99% council tax increase, £26.6 million in anticipated budget cuts/savings, and an assumed £10 million loss in the government’s Fairer Funding Review.
Councillor Paul Marshall, the council’s leader, stated that “setting a balanced budget is extremely challenging as we continue to face severe financial pressures, caused by funding challenges, inflation, and a continuing rise in complexity and demand for services.”
This is particularly evident in elderly social care and children with special educational needs and impairments.
