Will Osula agrees to leave Newcastle for Champions League club – Sky Germany

After links with a whole variety of midfielders, from Kees Smit to Conor Gallagher, the current reports heading into the January transfer window concentrate around a probable exodus.

Will Osula has been receiving substantial interest from Germany over the past six months, along with a deadline day bid from Aston Villa, and it looks like the striker is open to leave the club next month, as a new report indicates.

Does Osula consent to relocate?

Will Osula and Frankfurt have now achieved a “verbal agreement in principle” about a January transfer, according to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany.

Plettenberg claims that no agreement currently exists between Newcastle and Frankfurt regarding the terms of any deal, with Toon executives in contact with the Champions League club over a prospective trade.

It’s reported the Bundesliga side are readying a loan-to-purchase bid comprising a €3m loan fee and option to buy the Danish starlet for €20m next summer, although it remains to be seen if a deal of this sort would appeal to Newcastle.

The 22-year-old is reported to be ‘keen’ to join Frankfurt, with recent reports from Germany indicating his desire to move Newcastle for more regular first team minutes.

Three things come to mind for me. 1) Newcastle were unwilling to sanction a loan (with option) to buy agreement over the summer and you query how that benefited us. 2) A total package of about £20 million (€3 million plus €20 million) seems inadequate. And 3) if we were to let him leave in January, we’d need a replacement, with only Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa (hurt all season) in attack coming into 2026.

Are you concerned about an ankle injury?

Osula may be seeking more minutes, but he’s not been available of late thanks to a persistent ankle issue that remains a concern.

Eddie Howe told the reporters on Monday morning that he will not be able to play against Spurs tonight and that he needs more evaluation since he is still experiencing ankle pain after taking a break.

Howe stated, “No, he won’t be involved (against Spurs).” “We need to have further discussions internally to see quite what’s happening with his ankle because it’s not going in a straight line.

“I’ll try to give you some feedback when we get it because we’re not quite happy with how he’s feeling.”
