Williams Coaches to adopt Wheely-Safe fleetwide following trial.

The success of Brecon’s small-scale trial on the bus fleet will be followed by adoption on the coach.

Williams Coaches of Brecon will install the latest Wheely-Safe Connect technology across its 38-strong fleet following a successful trial on vehicles used for a bus service contract.

The product integrates intelligent tire pressure monitoring, wheel loss detection, and rim temperature monitoring. In the most recent generation setup, data can be sent not only to the driver but also to the operator’s management team.

This real-time information distribution enables the company to identify issues more quickly, improve fleet management, reduce downtime, and improve vehicle safety, as it is a member of both the DVSA Earned Recognition system and the Guild of British Coach Operators.

Williams Coaches first installed Wheely-Safe Connect on buses that run seven days a week on the TrawsCymru T4 service between Merthyr Tydfil and Newtown, which is operated in collaboration with Celtic Travel.

Director John Williams remarks that it was “the ideal opportunity” to test the device.

“We fitted it to three vehicles to start with and instantly the drivers were happier,” he shares. “Walk-around checks were easier, and it provided great piece of mind, even for difficult-to-see rear inner tyres.

Now that I’m satisfied with the system and its performance, the objective is to extend it to the coaches as well, ensuring that everything in the fleet is safeguarded.” He says that the system’s simplicity and effectiveness are two of its main selling points.

“The main reason we chose Wheely-Safe was safety. Even with the greatest procedures in the depot, things happen on the road.

“Incidents and accidents do occur, so we will utilise the greatest technologies available to protect our fleet and other road users.

“We have a driver who, at his previous firm, had a wheel come off and bounce down the highway; he described it as the most terrifying experience.

Fortunately, it did not collide with anything, but the repercussions for the driver, the firm, and everyone concerned may be terrible.”
