Wissa, Gordon & Joelinton: Latest Newcastle injury news and expected return dates ahead of Man City

Updates on Yoane Wissa, Anthony Gordon, Joelinton, and other injuries before Newcastle’s game against Manchester City.

Newcastle United has had a challenging start to the Premier League season, and things won’t get much better after the international break in November. The team’s next home game is against Manchester City, and several players are dealing with injuries.

Wissa, Gordon & Joelinton: Latest Newcastle injury news and expected return dates

While Eddie Howe will be hoping to call upon Valentino Livramento and summer signing Yoane Wissa soon, Anthony Gordon, Joelinton, and Nick Pope are among the key starters carrying fitness issues into the break. However, how many of the seven players with injury issues will be prepared to play City on November 22?

The most recent Newcastle injury news is included below, along with the anticipated comeback dates of the affected players when they become available.

Will Yoane Wissa be able to play against Manchester City?

Shortly after finishing his summer transfer from Brentford, Wissa suffered a knee injury while playing for the Democratic Republic of the Congo. As a result, he has not yet made his Newcastle debut, and the wait is still ongoing even though preliminary reports indicate that he will be available in early November.

Before the 3-1 loss to Wissa’s previous team over the weekend, Howe gave a favorable report on the 29-year-old attacker’s condition. The forward is currently back in training.

Howe informed the press, “He’s working well.” He’s improving his fitness while playing on the grass. There are no issues with the knee, and it feels excellent. He is in a fantastic position to propel his body and kick on. We must allow him enough time to build up enough strength so that he can provide his best to the squad. He will definitely be worth the wait.

Currently, though, it is improbable that Wissa, who was left off of his national team for the forthcoming World Cup qualifying match against Cameroon, will be prepared to play against Manchester City. The next weekend’s matchup with Everton might be a more feasible goal.

After the international break, will any of Newcastle’s injured players return?

A number of Newcastle’s other injured players may return to action prior to the match against Manchester City, but the wait for Wissa’s debut is probably going to be a little longer.

Valentino Livramento (knee) and Joelinton (calf) are likely to return in time for next Saturday’s game, but Anthony Gordon will miss England’s games owing to a groin problem that Howe characterized as a “minor injury.”

While striker William Osula is unlikely to be available due to an ankle injury that could keep him out for “weeks,” first-choice goalkeeper Nick Pope’s availability is less certain as he recovers from a concussion. The Dane is expected to return in early December barring further setbacks.

Complete back Harrison Ashby, on the other hand, has a major injury that will keep him out for an undetermined amount of time. The 23-year-old’s expected return date and the duration of his absence have not yet been disclosed by the club. Dan Burn’s suspension—the defender will miss the City game after getting a red card against Brentford—will make Howe’s squad selection even more difficult.
