Woman dies after emergency search off Hove coast.

 

On Monday evening (October 14), a woman died as a result of a large-scale rescue response off the Hove coast.

HM Coastguard alerted police at around 7.50 p.m. after receiving reports of a woman in distress in the sea.

A large search operation was initiated, with Coastguard rescue teams, RNLI lifeboats from Brighton and Shoreham, and a Coastguard helicopter from Lydd providing aerial support. Sussex Police also aided from the shore, coordinating the multi-agency response.

A woman in her fifties was rescued from the river but was tragically pronounced dead at the site.

A Sussex Police spokeswoman stated:

“The Coastguard alerted police at 7.50 p.m. on Monday, October 14, due to concerns about a woman in the sea off the coast of Hove.

The Coastguard and RNLI, with the assistance of police, undertook a search and recovered a woman in her fifties from the sea. She was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene.

Her next of kin have been informed, and our sympathies are with them during this terrible time.
