‘Would have lost that last season’ – Portsmouth fans react to draw at West Brom and ‘great’ point on the road.

Pompey draw 1-1 at West Brom, thanks to a Colby Bishop header in the second half. Pompey fans on social media have reacted to the Blues’ 1-1 draw with West Brom at the Hawthorns.

At a venue where John Mousinho’s side was thrashed 5-1 last season, the visitors stood up to Ryan Mason’s troops this time, resulting in Pompey returning to the south coast with a valuable point.

Mikey Johnston gave the Baggies a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute, curling his effort past the stagnant Nicolas Schmid while remaining unchallenged.

However, the hosts were unable to capitalise on their early lead and were punished when Colby Bishop headed home Josh Murphy’s delicious cross from the left on 56 minutes.

Mason was red carded late in the game by match official Elliot Bell for protesting too much in response to two quick-fire decisions that he believed deserved penalties. But that’s where the drama ended, much to the relief of Blues fans who returned home happy with a point on the road.

Here what the fans on X has been saying since the final whistle was blown at the Hawthorns.

@phil72pfc: That’s a fantastic away point that sets the tone for the rest of the season. The entire team performed admirably, but Regan Poole was particularly impressive.

@ChrisRe43862970: This season, the team is beginning to look like one away from home, which is an excellent point. @officialfournil:

Murphy x Bishop is so vintage! I absolutely love John Mousinho’s #Pompey. Delivery worthy of the header. We made significant progress since our last visit here, when we downed tools in just 20 minutes. We competed until the end today, which could prove to be a significant advantage.

@pfcmccloud: Excellent result; picking up points away from places where we struggled last season is a great sign. @TommoOnX: Massive point on the road against a very strong opponent. Josh Murphy, take a bow.

@_PompeyArg: I was scared at the start of the second half, but we gradually improved, and after the goal, we were superior. Obviously, they pursued it. There is a lot to work on, but it is a positive. We must win at Fratton Park, no matter what.

@ethelmurmanknee: Very good result, especially given the amount of time spent in the first half chasing shadows. @mikeshipp1971: Great point; I believe we would have all snatched your hand off before the match. Remember last season? 5-1.

@dazza_nics: That is a great point! At the moment, it’s safe to say we’ve learnt from our away experiences last season! Hopefully, it’s a sign of things to come this season! Football can be a simple game. Murphy to Bishop: Thanks for coming! @SteveoLarham:

We would have lost it last season. Perhaps you got lucky with 11, but that’s what you need away from home. We are already doing better away from home than we were last season. Win next week, and you’ll have a good head start for the big one.
