Everything you need to know about Edinburgh Hogmanay events this year including world famous street party.

Hogmanay is just around the corner, and Edinburgh has a packed schedule of festivities this year.

There are numerous ways to spend the New Year in the capital, including the traditional Torchlight Procession, the famed street celebration, and Wet Leg’s headline performance in Princes Street Gardens.

Here is everything you need to know about Edinburgh’s Hogmanay events.

Torchlight Procession

The breathtaking Torchlight Procession returns, illuminating the city with a river of fire made by 15,000 torch bearers and friends from all over the world.

Visitors can enjoy a funfair atmosphere with street theatre, fire performers and drummers, before the Massed Pipes & Drums and Vikings from Shetland’s South Mainland.

The Helly Aa’ Jarl Squad will lead the procession through the capital’s historic Old Town. The procession begins at 6.30 p.m., with tickets (almost sold out) available on the Edinburgh Winter Festival website.

Vitamin C – Opening Night Party

Vic Galloway (BBC Radio Scotland) and Andy Wake (The Phantom Band) will bring their spectacular club night to the Assembly Rooms in George Street for a night of incredible live music, featuring Edinburgh alt-rockers Swim School, joyous support from Americana inspired indie-rock waverley., and a party DJ set from Stuart Braithwaite (Mogwai).

The event kicks off at 8.30pm with ticket prices from £25. The Opening Night Party is 18s and over.

December 30

Glasvegas Hogmanay Acoustic Show

Glasvegas, the indie rock legends, will perform a special acoustic event at the Assembly Rooms on George Street, beginning at 7 p.m.Glasvegas built a devoted fan base before their breakthrough success in 2008 with their self-titled first album, a platinum-selling hit that won worldwide critical acclaim and a Mercury Music Prize nomination.

The all-seated event is for over 12’s with tickets available from £22.50.

If you need a laugh this holiday season, Ho-Ho-Hogmanay offers a night of live stand-up comedy at the Assembly Rooms.

Susie McCabe, the ever-hilarious host, will be joined by the best talents on Scotland’s comedy scene, award winners, and panel show regulars such as Christopher Macarthur-Boyd, Larry Dean, and Ayo Adenekan.

The all-seated event is open to those above the age of 12, with tickets starting at £22.50. The event begins at 10 p.m., and tickets are available for £22.50. Visitors must be older than 16.

LAU by Candlelight

Lau, an acclaimed folk trio, will give a unique candlelit concert at St. Giles’ Cathedral.

Kris Drever (guitar, vocals), Martin Green (accordion), and Aidan O’Rourke (fiddle) strip away their banks of electronics, loops, and wild effects for Lau by Candlelight, a performance about close listening and reflection rather than spectacle.

On the night, there will be a collection for MAP (Medical Aid for Palestinians).

The event begins at 7.45 p.m., with tickets starting at £27. The event is not appropriate for young children.

Night Afore Concert with Peat & Diesel

Stornoway’s folk-rock legends Peat & Diesel, who combine Scottish folk with Celtic punk, will play a barnstorming show beneath the background of Edinburgh Castle, with hilarious backing from Scottish accordion phenomenon RuMac and ‘Cèil-tech’ DJ Levi Heron.

The show begins at 6pm at the Ross Bandstand, with tickets starting at £32.50. Visitors must be 12 or older.

December 31

Concert in the Gardens

This year’s Concert in the Gardens at the Ross Bandstand will be headlined by Wet Leg, a five-piece from the Isle of Wight. The line-up begins at 8 p.m. and includes hometown heroes Hamish Hawk and Lucia & The Best Boys.

Visitors will also get a spectacular view of one of the world’s top New Year’s fireworks displays, which will be presented by award-winning comedian Susie McCabe.

Tickets are available from Ticketmaster and Tickets Scotland, with prices ranging between £70 and £100.

Bairns Hogmanay Ceilidh Club

A special Bairn’s Hogmanay Ceilidh Club invites young partygoers to join the celebrations, which include a large family ceilidh, live music, dancing, and Hogmanay fun for all.

Don’t worry if you don’t know the moves; it’s a casual ‘have-a-go’ environment where anyone may participate! All ages are welcome, however children aged 6 and up are encouraged to attend.

The event begins at 2 p.m. at the Assembly Rooms, and tickets start at £17.50.
