As their preseason program continues, Pompey manager John Mousinho revealed tonight that the former West Brom and Crystal Palace player will stay with his senior squad.
Ferguson played in the middle of defense for the Blues in the second half of tonight’s 5-0 victory at Farnborough, earning him his second consecutive start.

This comes after the 24-year-old played right-back in the first half of the 2-0 victory at Woking last night.

Ferguson’s final competitive minutes occurred on Boxing Day 2021 for Crystal Palace in the Premier League, marking a significant milestone for him following a protracted period of injury pain.

The player, who was born in Birmingham, has been practicing with Pompey’s senior squad since the end of the previous campaign. Last week, he was a member of the team that traveled to Slovakia.

Mousinho stated that the defender will remain with the Blues and play this Saturday against Crawley. Over the course of the next week, his situation will be evaluated.

Regarding where Nath is, he stated: “We’re still looking at him, and from his point of view, it’s really helpful for Nath to be with us.”

As a result, both of us have benefited from seeing Nath and him receiving the minutes.

He’s also playing in semi-competitive games for the first time in a very long time.

We’ll continue to keep an eye on it over the course of the following week or two, play Crawley, and then assess the situation from there. He is here for the duration.

First and foremost, Nath has had a great time practicing, regardless of what occurs.

Since he was with us at the end of the previous season, I estimate that he has been training for roughly six months and has been in good shape for much longer.

It’s crucial for him because it’s the first 90 minutes of football he’s played in two days.

“It’s definitely good to have a look at Nathan tonight given some of the injuries we currently have and the fact that he came in and performed well.”

Mousinho held back his praise for his academy’s young players, Fraser Thomas, Chinedu Agi, Beau Mullins, and Michael Ani, who showed their mettle against Farnborough by rising to a difficult physical challenge.

“The way Farnborough set up was very different from Woking, and it gave us a lot of problems with the way played,” he continued.

‘It was a good run out and to get through the two 45s injury free is a positive with the performance and result. We’re really happy.

It was crucial that the young men step up to the plate. It was crucial that they understand that there isn’t much room and time on the ball.

Considering that it’s the second week of preseason and there are other young guys out there, the boys handled the lesson nicely. Fraser, for example, had never stepped onto a field in a first-team setting, so it was a huge plus for him. That was excellent.
