Exclusive: Don Goodman reveals QPR issues that Julien Stephan needs to fix.
Julien Stephan is almost ready to be named Queens Park Rangers’ replacement for Marti Cifuentes.
The R’s have a big void to fill after the Spaniard, who has been on gardening leave since just before the season ended.
However, there is a substitute; according to sources, Stephan, the former manager of Stade Rennes and RC Strasbourg, will be named the new manager in the home dugout at Loftus Road following a two-year contract.

The burden will be on Stephan to get things going immediately so that the west London club doesn’t get dragged into an all too familiar battle at the bottom of the table, as Cifuentes’ genius helped QPR remain afloat in the Championship during his time in command.
It’s Julien Stephan’s big job at QPR.
Don Goodman, a commentator for Sky Sports, says that work needs to be done all over the field. In addition to making two excellent re-signings in Jimmy Dunne and Sam Field, they have also been connected to two standout League One players, Amadu Mbengue and Kwame Poku.
After the two clubs agreed on a compensation price for the Ghanaian free agent, the latter, the star winger for Peterborough United, is reportedly scheduled for a physical.
Regarding the difficulties Stephan will encounter when he gets to West London, Goodman stated: “QPR has problems everywhere, haven’t they?
They failed to score nearly enough goals to earn a berth in the postseason. They undoubtedly gave up far too many goals to have a chance at the playoffs. Lastly, their home form is the worst. Loftus Road was not a stronghold.
For that reason, you should make your home field a bit of a fortress if you want to be in the top half of the rankings.
“There is definitely room for improvement, but he will undoubtedly draw inspiration from Regis Le Bris at Sunderland and his actions, as he had a lot of work to do. By no means am I suggesting that QPR can pull off a Sunderland, but I am speculating that he will come in with a clean slate and be able to leave his mark immediately.”
Regis Le Bris’ punt ought to boost Julien Stephan’s confidence at QPR.
The Black Cats concluded the 2023–24 season in a similar position to QPR’s past season, before to hiring the player who helped them advance to the Premier League.
Even though Sunderland had far more talent than Stephan will have when he officially joins the R’s, it simply goes to show how much of an influence a change in management can have on a team’s performance.
