Millwall boss responds to question on future of forward

Millwall boss responds to question on future of forward.

ALEX Neil said Kevin Nisbet would have the opportunity to “stake his claim” for a place in the squad after missing Millwall’s pre-season training camp in Spain due to injury.

Nisbet, 28, was on loan at Aberdeen last season and scored 14 goals in 38 games across all competitions for the Scottish Premiership club.

Nisbet helped the Dons win the Scottish Cup, defeating Celtic 4-3 on penalties in the final. Nisbet started the game, and this was his first major trophy.

In the summer of 2023, the Lions signed Nisbet from Hibernian for £2 million. Nisbet netted five goals in seventeen Championship appearances in 2023-24 before joining Aberdeen last summer.

“I watched some of his games at Aberdeen,” Neil told NewsAtDen. “I have spoken with him since we returned, as well as in the summer before we returned. “We want to get Kevin fit.

Unfortunately, he is currently injured, but when he returns to fitness, he will have the opportunity to stake his claim for a spot in the squad.

“So he’s like every other player we’ve got, there’s no differences, like I’ve said there’s no pre-conceived ideas on any player at the moment – everything is up for grabs.” Zak Lovelace and Joe Bryan also did not travel to Murcia because they are recovering from injuries.

Millwall did not want to sign any players who would not have a chance to play in at least one of their two friendlies.

Millwall will face AFC Wimbledon at Plough Lane on Tuesday at 7.30 p.m.
