The best clubs in Europe and the globe are at the feet of Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak. Despite his rapid ascent in the football rankings, Gyokeres maintains that his Swedish international teammate has not changed, according to people close to both players.
The two have been at the top of the transfer rumours, having been connected to Liverpool and Manchester United, respectively, and Arsenal. They are leading a new wave of Swedish superstars who might have spent several years under Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s tutelage.
Nevertheless, neither player has grown as conceited as the former United and Barcelona star, even with their meteoric climbs in football. Johnny Gustafsson, Isak’s coach during his time playing for Swedish team AIK Stockholm at the U16 and U17 levels, clarified this.
Despite his uptick last season, Gustafsson stated in a March interview with the Guardian that Isak’s Sweden teammates, including Gyokeres, think he is still the same hungry and modest player he has always been. “They also say he’s exactly the same person,” Gustafsson stated. He hasn’t changed in the least because of his accomplishment.
Another coach and AIK administrator, Peter Wennberg, also remarked, when asked about Isak’s personal growth: “He never forgets. He is modest.
“He made it a point to thank the kit managers on the evaluation he had to complete at the end of his under-17 year. He was always aware that others were working to help him.
remained in contact with many of the people who helped him along the way. They also acknowledge that Isak’s early football career did not immediately indicate that he would be associated with Liverpool.
Several people, including agents and particular coaches, will say: ‘We knew he was going to be a good player, I saw him when he was 10 or 12.'” Gustafsson continued. However, that is untrue. We who worked at this club and were present can witness.
Isak became one of the best strikers in Europe thanks to his additional training sessions and curious personality. He had been strongly linked to a move to Liverpool, who were allegedly prepared to pay a record-breaking £120 million in British transfer fees to lure him to Anfield.
But after the Magpies told the Reds that Isak would not be for sale, they shifted their attention to Hugo Ekitike, a striker for Eintracht Frankfurt. Isak was also kept out of a preseason friendly match against Celtic by Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, who cited the intrusive nature of the ongoing transfer rumors.
Gyokeres, meanwhile, is still awaiting word on his ability to join Arsenal. Even going on strike to try to push through a trade, the Sporting Lisbon striker has made it known that he wants to come to the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners are having trouble finalizing a full agreement, but they have reached an agreement in principle for Gyokeres.
