‘Reading FC have been unlucky so far’ says Portsmouth boss.
Portsmouth manager John Mousinho believes Reading were ‘unlucky’ in their first two games of the season.
This evening, the Royals will play the first round of the Carabao Cup at Fratton Park, along with over 1,000 travelling supporters. Reading have lost their first two competitive matches of the season, both 2-0, and are looking for their first win at Fratton Park since 2015.
Reading have only scored in front of their fans once, against Hungerford Town, and lost 4-0 at home to Pompey in the season’s final pre-season friendly.
Looking to recover from defeats to Lincoln City and Huddersfield Town, Mousinho believes Reading can ‘count themselves unlucky’ this season. “They’re a good side who have been unlucky in the first two games of the season,” said the former Oxford United defender.
“We watched the Lincoln and Huddersfield games, and on both occasions, they can consider themselves unlucky not to have won something, especially against Huddersfield, where they nearly took the lead and a minute later the ball was in the net.”It’s been fine margins for Reading at this stage of the season but they’re a very good side with some excellent players and we expect them to be a really good test.”
Both teams are expected to make changes for the League Cup match, with Portsmouth winning their first Championship game 1-0 at Oxford United on Saturday.
