Millwall boss shares thoughts on Carabao Cup draw ahead of Coventry City clash.
ALEX Neil acknowledged that a Championship opponent was far from his ideal Carabao Cup draw.
The Lions face Coventry City tonight at The Den, after defeating Newport County 1-0 in the First Round on August 12.
The Sky Blues started the season well, drawing 0-0 at home with Hull City on the first day, then beating Derby County 5-3 away and thrashing Queens Park Rangers 7-1 at Coventry Building Society Arena on Saturday, 23 August.
Coventry advanced in the EFL Cup after defeating League One side Luton Town 1-0. When asked if he enjoyed the tie, Millwall manager Alex Neil replied, “To be honest, not really.” The game is fine. I have no objections to playing Coventry or anybody else.
“But I think that the way I look at these early rounds is that if we can get some, I don’t know, low-level division [team], that will allow me to get some of the younger boys in and give them exposure, which is great.
“If it’s not that way and you’re getting one of the big, big teams, I think that’s also good, because that’s good for us as a club and for the fans, and getting one of the big teams that come down to The Den and challenge ourselves.
“I believe we will already play each other twice this year as Championship opponents. There is no problem, but if I had a preference, that is certainly what I would consider.”
