Meanwhile, Sheffield United were hoping to earn their first points of the season.
Due to injuries and Japhet Tanganga being left out as he neared a move to the Blades, Lions manager Alex Neil was forced to make changes to the side, with Massimo Luongo, Luke Cundle, and Ryan Leonard joining the starting XI.
As a result, the Lions were essentially using two number tens to play ‘wide’. However, Neil was astute in arranging his team to maximise the players’ strengths, which benefited the away team.
