What Derek McInnes sees from Hearts signings that gives him major encouragement as his Gorgie ‘diamond’ named.

The Hearts head coach has been praising the early impressions he’s had from players in his camp.

Derek McInnes has been left admiring the early bond between his new faces and familiar players, as he discusses a diamond in his Hearts squad.

After a busy summer transfer window, the Jambos know who they’ll be working with for the first half of the season.

With the help of Jamestown Analytics, the club recruited players from leagues in Portugal, Estonia, Iceland, Italy, Germany, and other countries, as well as those with proven UK experience.

Many players will need to adapt, but McInnes is glad that no dressing room cliques are forming.

Instead, players are all moving in the same direction, following a good start to the Premiership season with 10 points from 12. Rangers will play next at Ibrox Stadium.

Derek McInnes on Hearts dressing room bond

He told the Evening News: “That is the problem, and I discussed it with the lads that were here previously.

I believe it works both ways. It takes a commitment from the new players to accept who we are, and that’s what we’ve had, which is fantastic, because I see us sitting in the canteen and at breakfast.

“There aren’t separate tables for British and Scottish players. Everyone is just sitting where they are, which pleases me.

I believe the guys who were here, as well as the British and Scottish lads, are making a genuine effort to help everyone. Footballers are footballers; we are all the same.
We may originate from diverse countries, traditions, cultures, and so on.

“But I think for us, once you’re on the training pitch or in the dressing room with the boys, they just want to play well, work hard, and make the team. Everyone is striving to help each other with it.”

James Wilson’s Hearts role

The international break is currently underway, and James Wilson is one of the players partaking in national team fixtures. He played for Scotland’s U21s against the Czech Republic on Friday night and could face Portugal at Fir Park this Tuesday.

After consistently appearing in Premier Sports Cup group stage matches, the teenager has only played 70 minutes of Premiership football since breaking into the Hearts squad last season.

McInnes believes he will play a major part this campaign. He stated that “James was probably the one who impressed the most in the first few weeks of pre-season.”

He resembled a boy who had been training. Clearly, his engagement in Scotland was keeping me on edge.

“I assumed he was precisely who I thought he was. A true gem of a youngster, he works hard, asks the appropriate questions, and is ready to learn.

He’s got a lot of nice natural attributes, and all he needs to do is keep fine-tuning his game and figuring out all the little things he can improve on.

Within it all, there’s a confident player, a child who believes in himself, and we do as well.

So hopefully he has a significant role to play for us this season. “I believe James, like all good young players, is impatient and eager to get started.”
