Demolition works begin at Aberdeen’s Beach Leisure Centre

Demolition works begin at Aberdeen’s Beach Leisure Centre.

Workers tore down an outside wall to get access to the building.

The abandoned Aberdeen Beach Leisure Centre has begun to be demolished, with equipment and workers sighted on site. The centre has been empty for two and a half years, with no trace of activity.

Several break-ins occurred at that time, including those by YouTubers and urban explorers, as reported by Urbandoned. However, there is currently a buzz of activity at the centre as demolition work begins.

A blue fence has been constructed around the site, with a tiny strip of ground providing continuing access to the adjacent ice rink.

The front parking lot has been sealed off, with construction equipment spread around. A part of the recreational centre’s external wall was demolished, giving workers access to the games hall.

Work to demolish the Beach Leisure Centre begins

During a visit on September 24, workmen were seen gathering debris in the hall with a giant excavator inside.

A massive amount of rubble from the external wall rests just next to the large opening.

It is understood that work is in the planning phase, with full demolition of the structure to begin next week. The flumes at the back of the centre will most likely be dismantled first.

Workers have also been inside, stripping the internal fittings in preparation for demolition. It is reported that the council intends to have the structure completely removed by the end of 2025.
