Campbell, 16, praised after breaking Argyle record.
Plymouth Argyle head coach Tom Cleverley has praised midfielder Seb Campbell for becoming the club’s youngest goalscorer.
The rookie, who is 16 years and 279 days old, scored the Pilgrims’ sixth goal in a 6-2 Vertu Trophy victory over Tottenham Hotspur Under-21.
He’s 37 days younger than the previous record holder, Darren Bastow, who set it in 1998. “He’s got big potential, and when you have a debut like that you get real belief and a bit of acceptance from the rest of the players,” Cleverley told the BBC’s Devon affiliate.
“Seb is an aggressive midfielder; I’d rate him an eight or a ten. He came on to replace Law [McCabe], who was playing a little deeper than Seb is most effective at.
“He had one [moment] shortly before he scored where he got into the box well. He has excellent technique and a keen eye for the goal.
He’s going to be six feet tall and pretty powerful. “He’s a player I’ve marked as having huge potential and I’m excited for his future.”
Finn has international potential

Tegan Finn, 17, also stood out, scoring twice in the game. Finn has already impressed for the first squad this season, starting both Carabao Cup matches and making four League One outings.
Cleverley stated he is on the verge of being called up to the England Under-18 squad and was impressed by how he performed against some of the Premier League’s best young players.
“You go into this game thinking, ‘Right, here is the best of London’s youth’ – a huge club, barring a couple who might be involved with their first team tomorrow – versus the finest youngsters that we can provide, and Tegan shone tonight.
“So we’ll see if that earns him international recognition over the next international break, but in terms of what we have as potential, he’s incredibly exciting and will undoubtedly improve from here. “I’m not pressuring anyone into making any judgements here, but he’s on my radar.
“He was on the long list for the last international break, so the FA are in contact with us about how Tegan’s getting on, and it’s nice to see that young lads from Argyle have been recognised internationally and tonight will have done himself no harm.”
