Hibs boss Gray reveals Old Firm target – putting Rangers AND Celtic in sights of Easter Road outfit

Hibs boss Gray reveals Old Firm target – putting Rangers AND Celtic in sights of Easter Road outfit.

Hibs manager David Grey reveals he has the Old Firm in his sights, with the Easter Road club looking to win at home against Rangers and catch reigning champions Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

Hibs’ victory over Aberdeen at Pittodrie today moved them back to third position in a tumultuous top-flight table.

They are two points ahead of Rangers, who go to Edinburgh on Wednesday night, and only three behind second-place Celtic. Grey is eager for his players to keep looking up during a season of unexpected victories and upsets.

The former club captain, who is celebrating back-to-back league triumphs for the first time this season, stated: “You want to win every single game you play. Rangers at home is always a challenging but exciting game to be involved in.

Gray eager to ‘catch team in front – and that’s Celtic’

“There will be enough fans to fill the house. They will get right behind us after two very impressive performances and results.

“All we can do is keep attempting to catch Celtic, who are now ahead of us. I’m not sure how many points we have currently, but we’re working towards that goal.

Nothing is won or lost in October; there is still a long way to go and much room for growth. But we’ve obviously given ourselves a foundation to build on.”

Hibs started the scoring with record signing Thibault Klidje, who improved his reputation with his second goal in as many games, before replacement Elie Youan scored a magnificent solo goal from the bench.

Marko Lazetic’s injury-time score for the Dons made for a tense final 30 seconds, with the visitors eventually holding on.

Grey praised his team for demonstrating their steely mentality in public, saying: “Yeah, to be honest, internally that is always there, that is something I really believe in as a group of players. We’ve only lost once this season in the league.

“I know there will be a lot of discussion over the points that were dropped. And maybe I could turn that around and argue that we’ve been a goal down before coming back and picking up points. So, throughout the season, you must believe in what you’re doing inwardly.

You have no influence over the noise that occurs outdoors. “You need to think about how we can keep improving and moving the group forward.

That is two big wins back to back, which is difficult to do – and it really sets us up for a massive game at home against Rangers.

Which will be an excellent game to look forward to.” Grey commented on the influence of his scorers, saying, “When you bring a striker into the building, especially a foreign player who has to settle and everything, you are in a rush because the expectations are so high. “We are not in a rush for Thibault, despite everyone’s expectations.

He has real competition all around him, as well as actual quality, which will only benefit him in the long run, so I am overjoyed for him; it will do wonders for his confidence.

“Ellie, great to come on and score a goal. But I talk about it all the time, the strength and depth of the group and the squad.
