Hearts urged to make transfer move in key area after Islam Chesnokov capture as second place Hibs claim aired.
Here are some of the latest Hearts and Hibs headlines.
Hearts and Hibernian now have an international break to regroup after a hectic schedule had reached a breaking point.
In their most recent Premiership match, David Gray’s Hibernians defeated St Mirren 3-0 on Saturday night.
Derek McInnes and Hearts’ lead at the top of the league was halved, with Rangers and Celtic having games in hand, as Dundee United held them to a 1-1 draw at Tynecastle, although they remained unbeaten despite a great start overall.
Both now enter the international break to recover and plan for the extended period of matches between later this month and the next break in March. Here are some of the most recent headlines.
Where do Hearts need to sign in January
Allan Preston believes Hearts should sign a right-back in January. With Islam Chesnokov already agreed to join as flank reinforcement at the start of the winter window, the former Hearts player turned commentator and agent believes the right side of defence may be addressed, with defensive midfielder Oisin McEntee the regular in that position this season.
He told Sportsound: “Looking at the team, there are individuals sitting out. Baningime has obviously taken a knock, therefore he is out.
Frankie Kent isn’t in their team, thus he’s out, and look at their bench. Kingsley, Kabangu, Steinwender, Spittal, Forrest, Kerjota, Ageu, the record signing, and Craig Gordon appear to be Scotland’s number one in the next few games for the national team.
“This is a really strong squad. I believe they will add to it again in January, with at least one if not two new players, but they will also need to get some of them off the roster because it is a top-heavy team. They handled the winger dilemma by bringing another in through the window.
I believe they require a decent, if not excellent, right back. I don’t think they’ve had a good right-back since Michael Smith, who was fantastic in his early years for the club, and I believe that’s the position they desperately need.”
Michael Stewart on Hibs
Michael Stewart, a former Hearts and Hibs midfielder, was on co-commentary for Saturday’s Hibs triumph, which was shown on Premier Sports.
He believes Hibs demonstrated their full potential in Paisley, and that if some of their draws had been converted into wins, they could be as high as second.
Stewart stated, “It’s what they’re capable of, and I believe that’s where the frustration stems from the management team, the supporters, and the players themselves, when you consider what could have been so far.”
There is still a long way to go this season, but if Hibs can find some consistency, they will be able to compete with the best teams. Even at this early point, you believe Hibs can safely sit in second position.
“There are a lot of things David Grey will be pleased with from this game, but one of them will be seeing Nicky Cadden improve in the second half. Kieran Bowie isn’t great, but it appears that pieces of his game are coming together.
Don’t get me wrong, there have been moments in the game that have clearly gone Hibs’ way, but they’ve taken advantage of them. They’ve really pushed home the ascendancy when they needed to, which has certainly been one of their biggest critiques thus far: they haven’t done enough.”
