A transfer breakthrough for Middlesbrough occurs when they agree to pay to sign striker Sontje Hansen.

The NEC Nijmegen forward is being approached by Middlesbrough.

By concluding a deal with NEC Nijmegen for striker Sontje Hansen, Middlesbrough has achieved their most recent significant transfer success.

With six goals and four assists over the last two seasons, the 23-year-old has excelled in the Eredivisie. He was linked to Boro early in this transfer window, and since Hansen made it clear he wanted to move, Boro had to be patient to finish the deal.

Compared to the €4.5 million reported in the Netherlands, the agreed upon amount is expected to be €3.5 million. It comes after Boro moved closer to selling Rav van den Berg for €13 million. As Boro works to complete the deal before their travel to Millwall on Saturday, Hansen is already believed to be in Teesside.

Being a versatile attacker, Hansen is typically expected to play one of two positions behind the striker. Additionally, he can play as a traditional winger, providing Edwards with the tactical adaptability he has indicated a need for. He gives the Boro offense attributes they do not currently have. He is a quick, direct, shrewd, and goal-oriented player.

Hansen has been on the radar of Boro’s hiring team for a while. According to reports, Chris Jones, head of recruitment, has been watching him since he first saw him play at the U17 Euros in 2018. In the past nine months, Boro has increased their scouting efforts, sending Jones and Kieran Scott to the Netherlands to see him up close.

After Callum Brittain, Abdoulaye Kante, and Alfie Jones, Hansen will be Boro’s fourth summer acquisition. At the very least, they still need a left wing-back and a striker.
