Alex Miller of The Star claims that it is “unlikely” that Charlton Athletic will sign Akin Famewo at this time.

The defender has been linked to a summer transfer to Charlton Athletic. After being promoted from League One, CAFC is ready for life in the Championship.

The 26-year-old Famewo quit Sheffield Wednesday when his contract expired. He is presently weighing his options as a free agent after his contract expired at the end of last month.

Journalist Miller posted the following on X as the most recent information on his status: “From what I gather, he left on Wednesday. As things stand, it seems unlikely that Charlton will wind up somewhere, but I can’t be sure.

Nathan Jones’ contract was extended by the Addicks last month. “I’m very proud and delighted,” he said at the time, according to their website. Even though I still had three years left, the club’s interest in continuing that journey and its attitude meant a lot to me. We’ve just taken a significant stride, but we still have a long way to go before we reach our objectives, and I’m happy to continue working toward them.

The latest on Akin Famewo from Charlton Athletic

Famewo will already be known to Charlton Athletic. He has already been on loan at CAFC twice..

As a young player, the Londoner was loaned to Grimsby Town to gain experience after starting his career with Luton Town. In 2019, Norwich City approached him and made a permanent signing.

During his tenure at Carrow Road, Famewo made one appearance for the first team. He played in 62 Addicks games overall, had two loan stints to The Valley, and also had time with St Mirren in Scotland.

In 2022, Sheffield Wednesday swooped for him. Prior to his recent departure, he played 73 appearances for the Yorkshire club.

What will happen to Charlton Athletic next?

Recently, Charlton Athletic has been quite active in the hiring process. The promotion to the second tier is something CAFC hopes they are ready for.

However, they could have to start looking for Famewo substitutes. He must make a big choice on his future after Sheffield Wednesday.

Among other players, the Addicks have entered the market to add Reece Burke, Isaac Olaofe, and Thomas Kaminski to their squad. In the upcoming weeks, they will have the chance to finalize further agreements.
