Brentford raise Yoane Wissa price, player unhappy with decision

Brentford raise Yoane Wissa price, player unhappy with decision.

Brentford will demand more than £60 million to sell 28-year-old DR Congo international Yoane Wissa during the summer transfer window, despite his links with Newcastle United.

According to Ben Jacobs, Newcastle United is interested in Yoane Wissa. The Magpies are eager to bolster their offensive unit by signing a striker during the summer transfer window, given the uncertainty surrounding Alexander Isak’s long-term future.

So, the 28-year-old Brentford centre-forward has emerged as a target for the Tyneside club.

The 2024/25 EFL Cup winners are eager to complete the summer transfer for the French-born attacker. Brentford’s latest move, however, has stumped Wissa and Newcastle United, with the West London club demanding more than £60 million to release him during the summer transfer window.

Yoane Wissa and his Brentford career so far

Yoane Wissa has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most consistent strikers since joining Brentford from FC Lorient in August 2021.

The player initially played second fiddle to Ivan Toney before establishing himself as the West London club’s undisputed first choice starter.

The 28-year-old DR Congo international has scored 49 goals and assisted 13 times in nearly 150 appearances for Brentford.

However, Wissa is looking to leave in the summer because he wants to play in the UEFA Champions League with a club.

Throughout the summer transfer window, numerous reports linked the player to Newcastle United.

Will Newcastle United sign Wissa?

Newcastle United’s pursuit of Yoane Wissa makes sense. The Magpies have been scouring the market for a striker as Alexander Isak’s long-term future remains uncertain.

The Swede has informed the Tyneside club that he will not play for them again as he seeks a move to Liverpool. In addition, Callum Wilson left as a free agent this summer.

So Wissa has become Newcastle United’s top target, with recent reports indicating that the club hopes to complete a deal by last weekend.

Meanwhile, while the Brentford striker has been pushing to join the Tyneside club during the current transfer window, talks may stall after Brentford raised the asking price to £60 million.

While recent reports suggested that Brentford would seek around £50 million to part ways with the 28-year-old DR Congo international, they now want more than £60 million.

That has displeased Wissa, who has unfollowed Brentford, changed his profile picture to black, and deleted all club photos from his Instagram account as he prepares to leave the club.
