Dundee Planning Ahead: £12m student flats work and McDonald’s decision delayed.
The Courier has compiled the most recent news on planning applications across the city.
A building warrant has been issued for more than £12 million in student residences in Dundee city centre. Lindsay House on Ward Road will house students, according to plans announced earlier this year.
It was stated that the space has been actively offered as offices, but without success, from November 2022. The application to build a 168-bed lodging block featuring study rooms, a theatre, and a gym was approved in July.
Elite Cask Limited, based in London, has now filed a warrant to begin work on the site. The work is valued at £12.15 million.
McDonald’s and world buffet decisions delayed
Council decisions on plans for two new Dundee restaurants have been postponed until the last minute due to incorrectly published online documents.
Last week, the local authority’s planning committee was slated to meet to review the Riverside McDonald’s and East Dock Street world buffet applications. However, the meeting was cancelled just two hours before it was scheduled to take place.
It was eventually revealed that the problem was created by a council error. The next planned planning committee meeting is November 3, so both applications are unlikely to be heard before then.
Progress on new fish and chip shop
Plans for a new fish and chip store in the city centre are moving forward. Mother Hubbard’s, which has locations in Glasgow and Edinburgh, will take over the former Tailend facility on Nethergate after it closed in April.
Plans for a new sign outside the refurbished facility have been approved. An opening date for the restaurant has yet to be announced.
